Weekend of Photography

I’m not usually one for sports. In any form. I don’t play sports, I don’t watch sports, my only exceptions being Olympic diving and gymnastics, and Winter Olympics. But that’s only every other year, which is plenty enough for me. But to say that I actually got excited and was yelling at this dodgeball tournament is saying something.

Dodgeball is a smaller sport in collegiate levels,  not many universities have them, but mine does, and we hosted the Dodgeball National Championship Tournament the other week. It sounded like it would be something fun to shoot so I took my camera and went to the game. I stayed through the semi-finals on the last day and let’s just say, my university dominated the whole time and went on to win. The best game was where another Michigan team had our side pegged down to one guy, but he kept catching balls that allows another player onto the court, and we turned the game around and still beat the other team. I don’t think I got as many pictures for that game because I was too busy yelling. And I think I’ve added dodgeball to my list of exceptions that I’ll watch.

Here is my flickr set of the best photos from the games. Click through to see more.

The other shoot I did that weekend was some behind the set stuff for my friend Mike. He has been filming his new student run TV show, Jeff & Mike Write A Comic and asked me for some photos. I have to say, his show looks hilarious and it was great fun being on the set in my friends’ apartment. I’m really looking forward to when the show actually comes out. But until then, enjoy these behind the scenes shots of the filming. Click through the image for more.

Audiosurf – A Custom PC Game

Posted: November 29th, 2008 | Author: Ellen | Filed under: Musics | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

I can’t take credit for finding this one. I can’t even play it! This is a game for all you PC users out there. And my brother showed me the ropes on his computer so I thought I’d just share.

Audiosurf! It’s so cool I wish I could play it, but it requires Steam and a PC computer with Windows 2000 or later. What is does though, is you connect it to any music folder on your computer, including iTunes and it plays almost any song you want and makes a custom track for it. A pattern we noted, usually mellow songs have an upward slanting track, while more energetic, forceful songs have a downward track. Anyways, the obect of this game is usually to hit the colored blocks on the track while your favorite song plays. Although the specific game play somewhat differs depending on what character and level you pick before the song begins.

Either way, I think it’s a brilliant use of integration between a personal music collection and the game. And it analyzes and loads quite fast! You can even compare your score to other players online. I am very impressed. So try out that free demo, PC gamers, and tell me what you think! If you really enjoy it, it’s just $9.99 for the full version.

EDIT: Mac users, you can play this if you have Crossover Games. Just be sure you also have Steam installed!

Auditorium – An Addicting Game

Posted: November 28th, 2008 | Author: Ellen | Filed under: Musics | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

Auditorium is a beautifully made game with an addicting play. The goal is to get the “light” to hit all the boxes using arrows to aim the light. Each box plays a differently orchestrated piece and when you hit them all, they play a very melodious song. It makes you want to win, just so you can hear it all!

This game is currently in beta though, so it’s only a demo. You can get on their mailing list though for when they update with more or add beta testers. But if you have some time kill, the demo is gorgeous enough, both the visual and audio included. So go play now!
